Ayotzinapa Solidarity March, October 2014

Citizens throughout Mexico took to the streets on Oct. 8, 2014 protesting the disappearance, torture, and murder of teachers-in-training at the rural teachers’ college of Ayotzinapa. In Chiapas, the Zapatista movement also participated by mobilizing tens of thousands of masked Mayan farmers to march silently through the streets of San Cristobal de las Casas carrying signs reading “Your Pain is Ours,” “Your Dignified Outrage is also Ours” and “You are not alone.” After the Zapatista silent march teachers, students, and parents also marched through the streets of the San Cristobal and into the historic center shouting, singing, and explaining their outrage over what is occurring in Ayotzinapa.
