"Please send a female doll. This is a gift for my niece Ramona, who is turning 1 year old. Her parents named her after Comandante Ramona. Thank you."  Our online store, "The Market of the Others", often receives heartwarming notes, but the recent exchange about a perky one-year-old baby girl living in Colorado has to be one of the best ever.

When asked if we could include baby Ramona's story in this newsletter her proud parents sent the beautiful photos you see here and replied, "We try to stay up to date on the happenings with the Zapatista resistance movement, and Ramona's name is indeed a gesture of our respect for that community, its accomplishments, and its struggles.  We would be very happy for you to mention her and her FANTASTIC birthday gift in your newsletter."  Her parents were also thinking about getting a Zapatista doll, but Ramona's on-target uncle beat them to the punch!

Ramona's uncle later wrote to say, "In my opinion, what made this the perfect gift was being able to donate even a small amount of money in Ramona's honor to a cause that her parents believe in.  I'm so grateful that a present to her could be a gift to others, and that this little soul has been able to touch so many."

Clearly Ramona's soul is anything but little.  In fact, her soul continues to cross borders without permission while offering hope and inspiration across enormous linguistic, political, racial, cultural, and geographic barriers.  Que Viva, Ramona!  Long live international solidarity! Long live Ramona!
