The gift of health is one of the most profound ways to make a difference in the Mayan communities of Chiapas, Mexico.  The Ramona Fund was created to provide transportation, medical testing, and accommodation to patients who who’s lives may be in immediate danger and require more extensive medical facilities then those available within the autonomous communities.  By contributing to the Ramona Fund in the name of a family member, friend, loved one, or on your own, you are providing support to the only emergency medical service available to thousands of indigenous peasants.

Despite the amazing advances of the autonomous heath system (which include blood labs, inoculations, on site glasses manufacturing, birthing center, surgical ward and herbal pharmacy to name but a few), some medical situations require access to medicines or facilities that are unavailable in the rural clinics.  The Ramona fund was designed to meet those needs, which include:

The fueling and maintenance of ambulances are often the only transportation available as ambulances from the city will often not come out to remote areas and public transportation is not secure enough to transport a critical patient.

Paying for crucial tests like an MRI, toxicity test, or X-Ray are almost always beyond the means of peasant farmers.   Traditionally to raise that kind of money a family would have to borrow from many friends, neighbors and even distant family members which takes time that critical patients do not have.  The Ramona fund pays for such tests in the case of medical emergency.

Patients cannot be sent to hospitals without bringing a family member for support and consultation.  The Ramona Fund also covers the additional costs of food and housing while in the city.
