The CD set includes the 5 groups: Magdalena de la Paz &San Andres Sak’amchen (traditional musical groups), Grupo Liberación & Tres Jóvenes(Revolutionary music), and Maderas Rebeldes (Chiapas marimba music) allof which are musical styles present in the highland region of Chiapas,Mexico. 

 

Since 2001, Schools for Chiapas has promoted Mayantraditional music and music of the Zapatista revolution by providing highquality recordings for the musicians who’s culture is on the brink ofdisappearing forever.  These uniquerecordings from the highland region of Chiapas, Mexico may be the last generationof traditional musicians but are also the first generation of the newresistance movement of the rural peasant population. 

 

These CD’s are part of the Mayan Music Revival program andall proceeds go to benefit the Music school, courses, and recordings inChiapas, Mexico.
