This incredible Zapatista songbook is part of an ongoing effort to promote and preserve the unique Mayan culture of Chiapas, Mexico.  Although these songs are new rather than ancient, they speak to the modern struggles of an ancient people while preserving wonderful traditional Mexican music styles dating back to the times of Emiliano Zapata. 

These revolutionary songs chronicle the early years of the Zapatista uprising  in the 1990's with songs such as "El Combate de Ocosingo" (The battle of Ocosingo) and speak ongoing Zapatista themes such as "Respeto a las Mujeres" (Respect the Women).
