Seeking renewed inspiration and energy
Schools for Chiapas has several projects which are currently functioning at very low levels, have been temporarily suspended, or are under development. In every case we hope to locate renewed energy and funding sources in the near future. We welcome your comments and suggestions.Bikes for Promoters
Since initiating this project the number of bikes in the indigenous communities of Chiapas has skyrocketed. Two of the collectives trained by the Bikes for Promoters project continue to repair bikes and one collective currently rents bikes to Zapatistas who do not own their own bike. These Zapatista bike collectives would like additional training and resources. Your suggestions and comments are welcome.
Alternative energy / sustainable production
In 1997 Schools for Chiapas donated a small, water-powered electrical generator to a river side community in Chiapas . Since that time we have donated several solar electrical units and engaged in extensive discussions about the potential in Chiapas of solar cookers, bio-diesel, bio-gas, solar generated electricity, rainwater reclamation, and small scale hydro-electric projects. Your suggestions and comments are welcome.
