Helping Zapatistas plant forest, fruit and
jungle trees in Chiapas, Mexico

Reforestation is an important, and ever growing priority, of the Zapatista Mayan communities.

Therefore, we at Schools for Chiapas now find ourselves cooperating in the creation of a number of tropical tree nurseries.  Teltal, Totzil, Chol, Mam, Tojolabal, and Zoque men, women, and children are all planting trees ~ often in association with community-based autonomous, indigenous schools.

These exciting new nursery / reforestation efforts are now providing Zapatista autonomous, indigenous communities with medicinal trees such as Neem; a wide variety of fruit trees like coffee and citrus; construction grade bamboo; as well as trees such as Teak and Mahogany which are native to the forests and jungles of Chiapas.

Individuals and organizations seeking to neutralize their carbon-load usage through the planting of trees – which is to say anyone who wishes to help save our Mother Earth - are welcome to support the community directed nursery / reforestation programs of the Zapatistas in Chiapas, Mexico.
