In Support of Zapatista GMO-Free Corn from Chiapas, Mexico
I support the efforts of the indigenous communities of Chiapas, Mexico to keep their corn free of genetically modified contaminations and I support the replanting of the GMO-free corn which was recently destroyed in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA at the World Beat Center. (Please sign form below.)
1. Whereas, unidentified vandals have destroyed the GMO-free corn planted on Earth Day 2010 at the World Beat Center in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA, PLANT EARTH;
2. And whereas, hundreds of small Mayan farming families from Chiapas, Mexico have donated their organic, heritage GMO-free corn seed to be grown in sanctuary by people-of-conscience around the world;
3. And whereas, these Mayan farming families of Chiapas are desperately resisting the introduction of genetically modified corn into their region which is the birthplace of corn;
4. And whereas, Schools for Chiapas is cooperating with organizations such as the Worldbeat Center in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA to raise consciousness and funds to support Zapatista resistance to GMO crops;
5. And whereas, there is additional Zapatista GMO-free corn seed available for immediate planting;
6. And whereas, funds are needed to purchase “GMO field testing kits” to identify sites of GMO contaminations throughout indigenous territory in Chiapas, Mexico;
