Help Paul Mann's family and the "NEA Peace and Justice Caucus" build a
Zapatista education center in Chiapas, Mexico
Can you please join us in Chiapas this summer
to help build the Paul Mann Memorial School
and Music Center? No special construction
or language skills are required! Join us!

Paul Mann was a creative and dedicated
teacher activist from the United States who
long supported the autonomous, indigenous
schools of Chiapas, Mexico. After Paul died
unexpectedly his family, friends, and union
colleagues in the Peace and Justice Caucus
of the National Education Association (NEA)
began planning a memorial in Chiapas. This
much needed educational project will
train teachers and other leaders in the Mayan
communities. This Zapatista
school reconstruction is the perfect way to
honor the vision and life-long
dedication of our friend Paul.
Mayan children are currently attending class
in the room pictured on the right (click the
photo at the right for a larger view of the
room).
This classroom will be the first
of five to be rebuilt at The Paul Mann Memorial
School in Chiapas, Mexico. New desks will
soon replace the rough planks which the students
now use during their studies, the walls will
be plastered and re-painted, the floor and
ceiling replaced. People-of-conscience
everywhere are invited
to join us in Chiapas during the summer of 2008
to participate in this reconstruction
project.

this reconstruction.

Educación Nacional (NEA) comenzaron a planear
un memorial en Chiapas. Este tan necesitado
proyecto educacional entrenara a maestros y

Most Schools for Chiapas trips involve rustic
living in breathtakingly beautiful locations
with interesting and involved people from
many countries. Some trips include a
service component (construction, cleaning,
and painting) and all of our travel programs
are educational. More recently we've begun
offering tours which are based in comfortable
city hotels with day trips to the autonomous,
indigenous communities (read Zapatista). No
special language skills are required as full
translations are always provided collectively.
So why not
join us in
the misty highlands and steamy jungles of the
Mexican southeast this summer.

cultura Maya, y criadero de plantas
medicinales
diversas comunidades Mayas.
Chiapas school construction, Mayan
culture, and medicinal plant nurseries
Sunday, May 4 until Saturday, May 17, 2008
Two spots are still available on this unique two
week long delegation which will
spend about half time in comfortable city
hotels with day-trips to sites of interest
and the other half of their time "roughing
it" in Mayan rural villages and centers. The
delegation will spend several days making
adobe block and wiring new lighting for a
rural historical building which is being
restored to serve as an autonomous,
indigenous community education center.
Participants will also visit two Zapatista
centers exploring education, health, and
development projects and to participate in
face-to-face meeting with Mayan people. The
delegation will visit the ancient Mayan citie
of Palenque, the modern tourist city of San
Cristobal de las Casas, and several Mayan
communities.

The Zapatista On-line Market is Growing ~ Slowly!
This very
special market is beginning with only a few
products; however
new products from
Chiapas - especially beautiful weaving,
clothing, jewelry, bags, and embroidery
from the
Mayan women's
collectives and cooperatives - are being
added each week. Check it out!

nuevos enlaces sea posible llegar hacia
ustedes, en otros lugares de nuestro planeta
Tierra. Gracias por su atención y apoyo.
